The future requires a triple bottom line, including aspects such as growth, development and change; workforce diversity, and integration with the community where the business is established.Tomorrow’s Workplace participating businesses have the opportunity to look within and question where they are utilizing their time, budgets and resources, and to realign their mission, values, and vision for the future. This exploration impacts and affects all stakeholders involved in the business. Through this process, the business gains a strong clarity to then steer the direction of the business for short and long term sustainability.
Business Strategy
While business owners understand the value of an inclusive business strategy, often they’re ‘too busy with business’ to invest the time in developing one. When strategies are developed, the next challenge is to follow through, implement, and evaluate. Research shows that the #1 reason business strategies fail is because they were not implemented, not because they weren’t the right strategies.
Balanced Scorecard Approach
The Tomorrow’s Workplace project is utilizing the Balanced Scorecard model that incorporates all aspects of business success. More than solely financial management, the BScorecard view looks at customer needs, sales and marketing, product/service quality, internal business processes, and people. Value, ideas, opportunities and problems are intertwined in these elements and can significantly impact the bottom line.
From the Balanced Scorecard analysis, key improvement objectives are prioritized; some with short-term impacts and other goals focused on preparing for the long-term. The mission, values and vision provide the direction that guides developing corporate objectives (both financial and strategic), strategic business unit objectives (both financial and strategic), and tactical objectives. The strategic plan then provides details of how to achieve these objectives.
